Article: Welcome to The NEW Skin Studio

Welcome to The NEW Skin Studio
For years, I've believed that the beauty industry doesn't need more noise.
It's already a crowded and overwhelming place, and the retail journey no longer feels enjoyable. As consumers, we don't need more products launched every week, more trends arriving and disappearing overnight, or more people telling us that this serum, this gadget or this ingredient will finally be the thing that changes everything.
Because they never do. They can't - it's only skincare! But they can feel good to use, make a real, noticeable difference to our skin and be a part of a gorgeous ritual of carving out time, taking care of ourselves and feeling good.
What it does need is perspective. More discovery, more genuine excitement and authenticity - that's what it used to feel like for me when I would read about new brands or products in the beauty pages of Vogue, back in the early 90s. Those pages and that feeling of excitement led me to follow a whim and call the phone number for Space NK (Apothecary, at the time) in the credits of a beauty shoot, and ask them what they were all about.
At that point, they only had one store, the first one, in Covent Garden in London and were opening up their next one on The King's Road. As a fledgling professional makeup artist at the time, I was enthralled to hear about it - a curation of cult brands not previously available, and not sold in department stores? Sign me up!
So, when they asked if I'd like to fly over from Dublin to talk to them about a possible job in London, I said an instant yes. And a week later, I moved to London and became a part of the original team at Space NK, where I worked for many years as a makeup artist and store manager.
When I came home to Ireland again, I continued to work as a makeup artist, teaching people how to get the best from their products, and in time I became Beauty Editor at IMAGE Magazine.

And so, to now, and The Skin Studio, where I am the new Beauty Director helping to create something else that feels fresh - and something else that I hope feels full of that old, authentic excitement of story, discovery and great brands.
This is a place for people who love beauty, but who also want honesty. A place for people who are curious about skincare, wellbeing, ageing, confidence and self-care, but who don't have the time or inclination to scroll endlessly through conflicting advice.
We are building something a little different.
Part e-commerce beauty destination, part editorial platform, The Skin Studio will bring together thoughtfully chosen brands, expert voices, real experience and intelligent conversation. Every product we stock will be here for a reason. Not because it's trending. Not because we've been paid to promote it. Because we genuinely believe it deserves a place on your shelf. And because we think and hope you will enjoy using them.
Alongside our curated beauty edit, you'll find stories.
Stories about skin, of course, but also about the women behind the brands, the experts changing the conversation, the routines that stand the test of time, and the rituals that make us feel more like ourselves.
We'll be speaking to facialists, dermatologists, makeup artists, founders, nutritionists, journalists and fascinating women whose beauty habits are shaped by experience rather than algorithms.
Some articles will help you navigate the overwhelming world of skincare. Others will simply be enjoyable to read with a morning coffee.
Because, after all, beauty should be interesting, and it should be enjoyable and thoughtful. And above all, it should feel personal and appealing to you.
As we grow, we'll continue to introduce new brands, new voices and new ideas. We'll also be developing loyalty programme benefits for those who choose to sign up to our community and join us on the journey from the beginning.
Whether you've arrived here looking for a trusted moisturiser, are seeking a new beauty experience, expert guidance or simply an engaging read, I'm delighted you're here.
Welcome to The New Skin Studio, we're really happy you're here!
